The Annual Third Coast Festival Broadcast

Each fall the Third Coast Festival brings the best new documentaries produced around the globe to the national airwaves in a special two-hour program called the Third Coast Festival Broadcast. The featured documentaries, all winners of the annual TCF / Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition, represent radio at its finest: moving, insightful, surprising and sometimes even life changing. Alongside the winning documentaries, the broadcast includes interviews with the winners and excerpts from the awards ceremony including the acceptance speech of the year's Audio Luminary.

2006 Broadcast

The Third Coast Festival Broadcast schedule, including all the stations airing the program through out the country, along with dates and times, is now available. As a rule, most stations air the program on or around the Thanksgiving holiday. (Pease note: this schedule is updated regularly.)

The 2006 Third Coast Festival Broadcast will be hosted by Alex Kotlowitz, a celebrated author and radio producer who has contributed to the New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine as well as Chicago Public Radio's This American Life and Chicago Matters series. Kotlowitz, whose work has received a Peabody, a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and a George Polk Award, was a staff writer at the Wall Street Journal from 1984 to 1993, writing on urban affairs and social policy. Kotlowitz is also the author of the widely acclaimed “There Are No Children Here: The Story of Two Boys Growing Up in the Heartland.”

Ben Shapiro, who has been making radio programs for nearly two decades, will produce the 2006 Third Coast Festival Broadcast. Shaprio is consulting editor of Joe Richman's Radio Diaries series and in 2002 he was co-producer of the Peabody Award-winning Sonic Memorial Special. Shapiro has produced the TCF Broadcast since 2003.

The 2006 Third Coast Festival Broadcast will be distributed by Public Radio International and will become available on the Public Radio Exchange in mid-November. Each year over 100 public and community stations air the program between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
